In fact, we believe they have the potential to complement one another in hugely impactful ways. Through the application of sustainable business practices MONA innovates solutions that grow local economies and do immense good for our planet alike. Whether it’s creating renewable energy, enriching soil, feeding the hungry, or purposefully doing business with other socially conscious companies. Together with our customers and professional network we are achieving great things…while having some fun along the way.
Similar to our mission, our customer list is simple; we have just two:
Mother Nature, or MONA as we like to call her. At the root of all our decisions you’ll find Mother Nature, and what is in her best long-term interest.
Any person or organization who enjoys Mother Nature, and wants to lend her a helping hand.
Reduce, reuse, recycle…repeat
MONA provides convenient, affordable and scalable food reuse & recycling solutions to residential and commercial clients across New England. Our services divert otherwise wasted food to shelters that feed the hungry, and to facilities that recycle food scraps into clean energy and products that sequester greenhouse gasses.
The buck doesn’t stop with what we provide…it continues through how we provide it. We work with suppliers who share our socially conscious framework and continuously give back to charitable organizations that align with our philosophy and mission.
As our customer base expands we’ll be releasing additional services & products that benefit our planet. Check back soon to stay informed on how we can help you help Mother Nature™.
When you choose MONA, you choose Mother Nature’s best interest. Laying our cards on the table, MONA’s success relies heavily on her ability to scale. More specifically, on her ability to serve as many homes and businesses as possible. Every subscription is an investment in Mother Nature and an essential local business that wants to do right by her. Your investment will empower MONA to expand services and products beyond compost collections to eliminate toxic waste-stream emissions. This is why our costs are low, our system is convenient, and our service is high—we need you, we need your friends, and we need industries both big and small. We need everyone.

Composting startup seeks to such more
NEWBURYPORT, MA — A local man’s composting startup is just the beginning in his quest to create a more sustainable world.
Ted Lague, a Newburyport resident with a background in management consulting, has always loved the outdoors. In January 2020, he started thinking about what he could do to help the environment while educating others. Soon enough, MONA Environmental was born with “MONA” short for Mother Nature, he explained.
“The mission of the company is to inspire the preservation, the conservation and the renewal of earth’s natural resources,” Lague said. In pursuing this mission, Lague said food waste seemed to be one of the biggest problems, so he built the company around addressing that issue.

An unlikely source of environmental activism
I spent much of my youth dreaming about cars, motorcycles and boats, especially wooden Chris-Crafts from the 1940s. In fact, by age ten I had bought my first yacht of sorts, a teal MirroCraft for $5 with holes plugged by the previous owner’s bubble-gum. He was a Dubble Bubble man if I remember correctly. By 13 my parents allowed me to buy my first car after I made honor-roll (the driving force behind my good grades); an unregistered red 1988 Saab 900S with 188k miles and rust-hole-air-conditioning.
The joy of these vehicles as well as the many that followed certainly revolved around the engineering, but equally so the natural environment that surrounded me while enjoying them. Whether I realized that as an adolescent is debatable, but my passion for vehicles and their impact to the environment none-the-less has had a great deal of influence over my present awareness, affection, and duty to protect Mother Nature...click here to continue reading
